MOBILE APPLICATIONS

Mobile learning, also known as MALL, is an educational system. Mobile learning supports, with the help of mobile devices, a continuous access to the learning process. This can be on appliances like your phone, laptop or tablet. You can learn wherever and whenever you want! :-) With the advent of mobile learning, educational systems are changing.
What's the importance of mobile learning? Let's take a look at mobile learning in education and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of mobile education.

Examples of mobile learning in education:

Offering mobile learning material
This is the most easy way of mobile learning. You can offer texts, videos or audios. It’s possible to do this whenever you want. Participants are able to prepare homework by watching a video that the teacher has put online. This way of mobile learning is relatively less interactive. It’s more about individual consuming. There is no interaction with teachers or other students, which makes it an asynchronous way of learning.
Interaction during lessons
If you do want to have some more interaction, you can use mobile devices during your lessons. An example of this is asking questions during your instruction. Teachers ask questions and the pupils will answer them on their mobile devices. Teachers are able to get immediate feedback. This is especially easy for teaching large groups.
Synchronous learning
Immediate feedback from your teacher or fellow students? This is possible with synchronous learning. You are able to get direct feedback while you’re at home. Teachers can interact with their students during their lectures.

Advantages of mobile learning

👍Wherever and whenever

It’s possible to lay in bed and watch a lecture whenever you want.

👍Motivation

‘We are making an online quiz!’ You can see the smile on the faces of the children. It really motivates children to learn from tablets or other mobile devices.

👍More content

Videos and audios are things you can add with mobile learning. Videos make it possible to make learning more lively!

👍Working together from long distance

While the one student might be in New York and the other one is in Amsterdam, it’s still possible to work together! This is one of the main benefits of mobile learning.

Disadvantages of mobile learning

👎Distraction

Mobile devices can be a great distraction for participants. Children like learning on tablets, but gaming on tablets seems to be even more fun! As a teacher you are not always able to control what your pupils are doing on their tablets.

👎Not enough electricity for all mobile devices

There have to be enough sockets for all those mobile devices, and not even spoken about all the cables. This may be a problem in the first couple of years. In the future, there will probably be a solution for this problem :)

👎MALL and our LMS

Mobile learning is certainly possible with our learning management system. You can motivate your pupils to learn things from their mobile devices. Ask questions and make your pupils answer them by a quiz during a lecture. It makes your lecture more sparkly!

QR

QR (quick response) codes are not new and certainly not just for the classroom but they have so much potential for teaching and learning – I think they are great! There are a wide range of websites and apps to create and read/scan QR codes, I would recommend the app QR Reader. If you haven’t created QR codes before they are very easy to do so, I was surprised by how straightforward and quick it was! If you haven’t tried QR codes in your classroom then it is worth trying.
QR codes can be used in so many ways both in and out of the classroom with pupils. Here, I share some of the ways I will use QR codes with my future pupils …

Differentiation

Differentiation for some teachers can result in added workload and planning with lots of different activities happening in the same classroom – when it doesn’t have to be that way.
The better we know our pupils the easier it becomes to support and differentiate. QR codes can be used to provide support and challenge. QR code stations are useful because there can be areas of the classroom with QR codes on display for pupils to scan if they need further support or have finished work and need a relevant extension – for example one QR code I have on display is a link to the Edexcel website with exam questions and another with the mark scheme. To challenge pupils QR codes can link to further reading and subject specific materials. As well as providing support and challenge QR code stations are also encouraging pupils to become independent learners.

Pupils create their own

A lot of pupils are very savvy when it comes to technology andit is important to impressed with how quickly pupils can grasp using new apps and websites. As previously mentioned it is very simple to create QR codes so pupils can use QR codes if they wanted to share research, information or online videos that are relevant to what the class have been studying. I

Ice breaker challenge

The QR code icebreaker challenge is great for  pupils new to the school. The idea is to place QR codes around the school for pupils to find, this allows the pupils to travel around the school and become familiar with the building . Each QR code will have a question and pupils will have a table to fill in with two columns: Answer and Location – pupils write down the answer and where they found the QR code e.g. Answer: 1066 Location: Library. The treasure hunt idea can be used with any subject and once again pupils could create their own for other pupils to solve.

Quizlet

Anyone can use Quizlet to explore content created by other users, or create their own training modules. You can also share modules with friends, classmates, or your students.
Getting Started at Quizlet
The best way to get started in Quizlet is to search for training modules created by other users. Students and teachers are constantly creating new modules, so you will surely find modules on the topic that interests you.
Creating your content
If you are learning something very specific or want to share your content with a group of classmates or students, you may be better off creating your own modules than working with modules created by other users. To create modules, you first need to register and create an account.
You can create modules with text, add images (users with free accounts can use images from our gallery, and users with paid ones can use ours or upload their own) or create modules with diagrams.
I suggest you explore my flashcards: Words for studing

AUGMENTED REALITY
The traditional education system, built on the transfer of knowledge from the lecturer to the audience, today requires new approaches, including technological ones. One of the promising areas is augmented reality (AR), which can turn the learning process into a multifaceted virtual experience.
AR technology - augmented reality - is more often associated with computer games like Pokemon Go. In them, the video camera of a mobile phone becomes a window through which the virtual world comes into our ordinary life: the camera not only shows us the surrounding reality, but also populates it with fictional drawn beings.
AR-technologies are in demand not only in entertainment, but also in education. Virtual images that students can see right in the lecture hall make the learning material more vivid, vivid and memorable. And what is education, as a reality that is not supplemented with new knowledge?
Everyone who has ever learned a foreign language, hanging cards with the names of objects around the room, used the analog version of augmented reality. Gadgets can translate this method into digital format.
E.g. Hovering the camera on the hat in the hallway, a person will be able to hear the name of this object, for example, in Japanese.
I would like to offer an application for smartphones that will allow students to learn the language using augmented reality.

MONDLYAR

In MondlyAR, there is an “teacher” avatar that introduces various virtual objects (planets, animals, musical instruments, etc.) into the room as teaching tools. It also involves the user in a conversation and, using the chatbot technology, provides instant feedback to improve the student's pronunciation. Thanks to such realistic elements in the classroom, it is more likely that students will better understand, apprehend and remember the learning material.

Users will have seven languages to choose from: American English, British English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and German.

MOOCs

Online learning is a remote interaction between the teacher and the student. The emergence of massive open online courses began in 2008, but gained real popularity in 2012. The possibility of distance learning is carried out through the use of computer technology and the Internet. This training system is suitable for people living in remote areas, as well as for those who do not have the opportunity to study full-time or attend classes. This system is financially affordable and therefore attracts a large number of people around the world.
At the moment there are many online platforms that provide the opportunity to study remotely, many universities practice this type of training. The accessibility and ease of educational activities are attracting more and more people.
At the moment the following courses would be useful for students of linguistic and pedagogical specialties:

1) EDX
2) FutureLearn
3) Codecademy
4) COURSERA
5) Open2Study

By selecting and comparing the most current and popular MOOCs, it can be concluded that they operate according to an identical, similar system. The partner universities and the proposed categories of education are also practically the same everywhere. The essence of online platforms is the organization of a link between world universities and online students.
At the moment, many global companies are resorting to the online training service to improve the skills of their employees, because They consider this method the most convenient, flexible and reliable.
With the development of new technologies and pedagogical methods, soon this type of training can completely replace full-time education. It is also worth noting that, despite the shortcomings of this training system, more than 24 million online students study on Coursera and EDX platforms, which indicates the growing popularity of online courses.

As for me, I would like to complete the following courses, because I think it'll be useful in my future life.

1.The Science of Parenting of EDX platform

About this course

Skip Course Description
Everyone has an opinion on parenting – where babies should sleep, what they should eat, and whether parents should spank, scold, or praise. What’s more, the media often offers support for whichever opinions appear most popular at any given time. This leaves those of us who like to base our decisions on firm, provable facts feeling dizzy.
“The Science of Parenting” addresses this confusion by moving beyond the chatter and opinion surrounding parenting, and by looking directly at the science. Parenting itself is far from a science. Nevertheless, scientists have conducted thousands of studies that can help parents – or future parents – make sensible, informed decisions.
One goal of this course will be to provide a survey of important scientific findings spanning a range of topics that are central to the lives of parents:

  • diet;
  • sleep;
  • discipline;
  • learning;
  • screen time;
  • impulse control;
  • vaccination.
We’ll also explore ongoing mysteries, like what causes autism, and why so many children are allergic to peanuts.
Perhaps more important, this course will not only dig into existing science, but will also explore the underlying nature of parenting science itself. Often, scientists measure correlations: they ask how different parenting practices are related to different behaviors in children. But the claims they make from correlational data are often much, much stronger. For example, from correlational data, scientists often claim that parents cause the behaviors of their kids. This course will show how this type of error – common in the scientific literature – can explain a significant amount of the confusion present in the media and general public. We will discuss how to avoid the same error when evaluating science, and how to use the sum of available evidence to inform decision making.
The course’s instructor, David Barner, is a leading authority on cognitive development. He is joined by leading experts on behavior genetics, vaccination, autism, lying, and spanking, as well as by real live parents who try to use science to inform their decisions. This class is suitable not only for parents, future parents, and grandparents, but also for professionals interested in health care, social work, and early childhood education who want to increase their knowledge and analysis skills.

What you'll learn

  • Core knowledge on topics including infant sleep, forms of discipline, breastfeeding, language and math learning, screen time, bilingualism, and autism;
  • Analytical and applied techniques, including how to compute the contribution of genetics to a trait, how to understand and compute correlations, and how kids can effectively study for tests;
  • Best practices for sleep training, discipline, and feeding.

WIKI

Wiki is a web technology used for collaborative publishing on the web. Wiki is a type of server software that allows you to work with data on a remote server on the Web. Users interact with the software through a web interface that lets them read, edit and publish content.
At the user's level, a wiki is a website with an “Edit” button. Clicking the “Edit” button allows you to edit the current page and save it for other Internet users to see. Like any other website, it is accessed through a website address, also known as URL which can be bookmarked and shared. It can also be accessed from any device with an Internet connection. Technically, a wiki site is not different from any other sites, with one exception — you and your students can create and edit it together.
Wiki is used for collaborative publishing. A group of co-authors can freely add and change the content of the wiki website: rewrite texts, add new texts and images, add and link pages and more. To do so, the group needs access to the website via the Internet and proper authorization. The wiki owner can restrict editing to a group of collaborators (e. g., students or colleagues), publish to a wiki individually or open it for global editing by everyone on the web.
I also want to describe such WIKI as:

😺 Teflpedia

Teflpedia is a wiki dedicated to everything associated with teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) or second language (TESL). Our objective is to become a major user-generated resource for English teachers from all over the world.

😺Wikiversity

It is a place where you'll find free learning materials and learning projects. Everyone can participate. There is no cost, no advertising, and no credentials are required. No degrees are awarded — just learning.
Everyone can create and revise teaching materials. Anyone can participate in the learning activities. Everyone can take a course. Everyone can teach a course. There are no entrance requirements and no fees. All content in Wikiversity is written collaboratively, using wiki software, and everyone is welcome to take part through using, adding and discussing content

SURVEY SERVICES

Today, computerized learning of foreign languages is becoming increasingly popular. Namely, special platforms that provide the ability to test using gadgets and access to the Internet. It is much easier to use programs that will analyze the work of the student and evaluate it, rather than the teacher will do it all manually.
The most popular programs for testing and surveys are:
💙MyTextX
MyTestX is a system of programs (student testing program, test editor and results log) for creating and conducting computer testing, collecting and analyzing results, and grading on the scale specified in the test.
💜Google Forms
With Google Forms, you can not only quickly conduct a survey, but also create a guest list, compile email addresses for a newsletter, and even conduct a quiz.
💛Socrative
Socrative is a formative assessment tool that helps teachers and learners to assess learning and progress.

An assessment tool

Formative assessment has become a key feature of classrooms in recent years. It helps teachers know where to go next in a lesson or course, and it also encourages learners to better understand where they are in their learning, where they need to go and how to get there – something which educational research suggests is important for more effective learning.

GOOGLE SERVICES

Google for Education is a service from Google that provides independently customizable versions of several Google products using a domain name provided by the customer. It features several Web applications with similar functionality to traditional office suites, including Gmail, Hangouts, Google Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Groups, News, Play, Sites, and Vault. The products also tie into the use of Chromebooks which can be added to the G Suite Domain of the educational establishment.

😊Digital Tools

The most useful Google services for education

Google Docs-This service allows you to create and edit text documents using various tools: types, tables, pictures and so on. You should not be afraid that something will happen to the text, because any of your actions on the text are automatically saved. The most important advantage, in my opinion, is that the service allows several users to work on the text at the same time, as well as view the history of changes. And all this for free
Google Forms- This app allows to create tests and polls, which, in my opinion, can facilitate the work of the teacher. He/she does not have to spend a lot of time checking work, making calculations. The service will do everything for him/her. Using ready-made templates or uploading your own images, you can easily decorate your test. The answer statistics is given directly in a form and the answers themselves can be viewed in a table to be created automatically. I think this service is ideal for teachers who use computer technologies in the process of teaching
Google Calendar- In the calendar, the teacher can mark the dates of writing the tests, draw up a schedule of lessons and note its possible changes. Also he/she can set up notifications, which allow to convey all important information with a single click

BOOKMARKS

Evolution of bookmark services

Whatever service you choose, you can easily add to its catalog a new bookmark or edit the old sort bookmarks by tags assigned to them or place them in different folders. However, each service has its own pros and cons, which you encounter when you work with bookmarks directly from the browser without having to go to the bookmarks directory site.

The best way to show the comparison is to use the chart taken from one of the review sites:

Where:

💥integration into the page services in the form of button-links

💥it has a toolbar; bookmarks can be used without visiting the site, although some operations can be performed only on the website;

💥here you can fully manage the bookmarks from the browser without visiting the site;

💥service synchronizes the "native" browser bookmarks directory.

One minus of this research is the lack of studying Google Chrome browser. But still, using the Google Bookmarks in the native Google browser seems to me the best variant.

Personal bookmarks

As an example, I created a bookmark for my blog at top-page. This site allows the creation of visual bookmarks that can be expanded like infinitely and without questions such a necessary function as - synchronization with them from another computer, the service also offers a search bar and 20 background images to choose from.
This functionality is quite enough to more or less customize the start page for yourself, put the background image for the soul, the search engine and of course the bookmarks themselves.

Advantages:

👍unlimited bookmarks
👍the ability to download bookmarks on another computer
👍search string with 2 search engines
👍20 background images

Disadvantages:

 👎no mobile version

PRESENTATION: CREATION & STOCK SERVICES

Hello!
Today I want to talk a little bit about the best services and applications for creating and storing presentations.

1.SlideShare
The SlideShare service allows you to send created presentations to the Internet, providing open or limited access to them. The service converts PowerPoint, OpenOffice, Keynote or PDF files to Flash format. It allows you to create brand channels where your presentations will be stored. This service allows you to save PDF files, documents, or videos (including YouTube clips embedded in presentations). A significant advantage of the service is that access and sharing of presentations is quite simple. Uploaded to the service presentation you can easily insert into corporate blogs or websites, share them via Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It is possible to create audio slides, so you can create your own webinars on the basis of presentations. The disadvantage of the service is that the uploaded presentations can no longer be edited.

Free from ads free publishing platform Speaker Deck allows you to download slides in PDF document format. The service then converts them into presentations in a lightweight format that allows you to quickly share them over the Internet. When placed on a blog or website, presentations are automatically scaled to the appropriate size without compromising image quality. Although the Speaker Deck program offers fewer features than its competitors, the simple sharing of presentations and the elegant, no-frills platform make it an indispensable tool, easy to use. The service also provides an opportunity for any user to download your favorite presentation in PDF format, and then view it offline on bookreaders, smartphones and other mobile devices.

5.Prezi

The leading application for creating presentations: all slides are located on a huge desktop and switch between them using the zooming-effect, which allows you to create a real presentation script, without being distracted by the development of additional ways to attract the attention of the viewer. The zooming effect gives the narrator the ability to improvise with the presentation and move in a non-linear scenario, this strongly distinguishes Prezi from other tools.
Features: the world's first graphics application with Adobe Flash running on iPad.
Ability to collaborate on a single presentation in real time.
Possibility to insert videos, animated and vector images, audio tracks, PDF-documents into the presentation. Large selection of templates and themes. Available on almost all platforms, you can work both in the browser and in the offline editor, as well as demonstrate the finished work on the Apple iPad. There is a possibility of the publication of the presentation in the structure of a web page.
Usage: for a novice user may seem difficult, because it does not have the usual interface in the form of drop-down menus. Knowledge of English is also required.
Cost: all tool features are available for $159 per year. The free version is available in the browser and also for 30 days to use the editor offline. There is a full free version of the editor for universities and students (you need to confirm your studies).

Internet service, which was supposed to turn into a multimedia version of Wikipedia, but developed into a full-fledged tool for creating video presentations. Various elements (images, texts, links, videos, maps, twitter feed and so on) can serve as materials for the presentation. In contrast to the usual video, in the view mode the user has the opportunity to interact with the content of the screen in different ways, without interrupting the storyline and the voice of the speaker. Of the obvious drawbacks - does not work offline and is not available on the iPhone.
Features: huge selection of types of elements inserted into the story script. A large collection of presentations, as the service was originally an encyclopedia. Available on mobile devices as a separate application. The ability to publish a video presentation in the structure of a web page (blogs, social networks, and so on). There is no need to think about the design of the presentation, the design of the story is automatic and in the same style.
Usage: a very modern and simple interface qwiki will be clear to almost every user, but the work with the timing setting to synchronize the voice with the visual range may seem difficult and require you to video editing skills. Knowledge of English is also required.
Cost: the service is free but should not be used for commercial purposes.

I also want to present my presentations in Prezi and Google
